The Maka constitute one of the most dynamic, hard working and popular tribe in the east area of Cameroon. Besides, it is important to mention that they are very stubborn and rascals. In fact, they are known as the white men of the east and they knew life beforethe rest of the eastern tribes. They are large in number and constitute the one fifth of the 307388 souls of the eastern region. Being merely found in the east side of our country, they can also be found in the centre and southern zone of Cameroon, in Gabon and in Equatorial Guinea.
However, we will mainly focus on the Maka of the eastern Cameroon throughout our work to simplify our study. We will center on six areas which are: historical background, geographical setting and its impact on the culture of the tribe; sex, marriage, and family life in the tribe including residence patterns and inheritance practices; economy of the tribe; politics of the tribe; and religious practices and ideas of the tribe.
